BMW 2 Series convertible delivers M Sport bite to match its bark
While the M2’s eagerly awaited arrival is still more than 12 months away, BMW’s M Division has announced a number of enhancements for the 2 Series convertible, in both visual and mechanical form.
The 2’s posture will look more dynamically fit via side skirting with matching M decals, a new front grille and matching black accents running just below the crease line on the car’s flanks. A new stainless steel exhaust with chrome or carbon fibre tailpipe tips is available, perfectly complementing a brisk drive with the roof down.
The exclusive M styling continues with a new diffuser on the bumper, carbon fibre mirror caps and two BMW M Performance 19-inch light-alloy wheels in a choice of finishes.
Internally carbon fibre and alcantara have been tastefully applied to enhance the aesthetics and feel of the gearshift lever (for manual and auto) and handbrake grip. The centre console trim, centre armrest and interior trim strips can also be retrofitted in carbon.
Also available are M Performance floor mats, stainless steel pedals, performance key case, and LED door sill plates. For those who enjoy to drive more enthusiastically, the steering wheel is available encased by alcantara and carbon trim, and can be specified with or without an integrated Race Display.
With the vehicle looking the part, BMW is also offering the M Performance Power Kit, ensuring the little 2 Series will have a bite to match its bark.
The stock intercooler is replaced for a larger capacity unit and the ECU modified to match the upgraded componentry.
In the 220d this will see a performance gain of 11kW over its stock 140kW, cutting its 0-100km/h by 0.3sec with no change to fuel consumption.
Delivering the extra power to the ground is a M Performance’s limited-slip differential, while sharper stopping is provided via upgraded drilled and slotted brakes.
Although the extra 11kW is not a huge improvement in power, the larger intercooler and enhanced driveline may allow curious owners to more reliably increase turbo boost via the aftermarket, but the beauty of the M Performance Power Kit is that it retains the full BMW factory warranty.
