The first production model of the all-new Acura NSX sold for nearly ten times its US retail price last week. The #001-stamped NSX was sold at the Barret-Jackson Scottsdale auction for $US1.2 million in late-January

Rick Hendrick, the highest bidder of the coveted Acura – which will be sold under the parent Honda brand outside of North America – is the owner of the Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR team. Every dollar raised from the sale was donated to American children’s charities, the Paediatric Brain Tumour Foundation and Camp Souther Ground.

Bidding for the car surpassed the $1 million mark, making the all-new Acura NSX the highest charity sale of a VIN #001 car in the auctioneer’s 45-year history.
