Although Mercedes-AMG won’t be showcasing its new GT S GT3 racer at the Bathurst 12 Hour, it will regularly be seen up-front throughout the race… thanks to the C 63 S Official Safety Car you see here.

The mighty sedan is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, replacing the venerable 6.2-litre naturally-aspirated still used in the private Mercedes-AMG SLS GT3 racers that will compete at the event.

Outputs of 375kW, 700Nm and 0-100km/h in 4.0sec, the C 63 S safety car will also sport ceramic brakes and AMG’s electronically-locking rear differential. With this spec, it could probably keep pace with some of the lower classes in outright lap speed.

With 20 safety car periods last year’s gruelling event, the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S could be pressed into regular service. The 2016 Bathurst 12 Hour runs from 4-7 February.
