Thundering SRT Hellcats show there’s life in V8 grunt

Dodge has slammed into the new year with its updated SRT Hellcat range.

Both Challenger and Charger will once more be offered with Plum Crazy exterior paint. Said to be a result of customer demand, Dodge has reissued the limited-edition scheme made famous by 1970s Mopar muscle cars, most notably by the original Challenger pony car, for an additional month.

In addition there’s an optionally-available SRT Hellcat dual exterior stripe. These carbon-fibre pattern stripes will run the length of the car.

Under the ‘hood’ remains an incredible 527kW supercharged 6.2-litre V8, with legendary HEMI branding; another nod to Dodge’s performance past. This monster also produces 881Nm and is largely responsible for the Challenger SRT Hellcat’s blistering 11.2sec quarter-mile capability.

US SRT Hellcat buyers will gain upgraded leather trim and 8.4-inch MMI with sat nav.

And the price for such grunt? The Challenger SRT Hellcat Coupe is $64,195 (USD) with the four-door Charger starting at $67,645 (USD). And we though HSV’s GTS was a bargain…
